On my visit to the CLC I spoke to Simon Elledge about Elgg and showed him how it worked. He was very interested as it fits in very well with a project he is planning for September He is moving jobs soon taking up a position at Roehampton involving teacher training so is ideally placed to help promote it. I created an account from him in the afternoon and discovered another but in the useradd script: in perl "not equal" is "!=" for numbers but "ne" for strings so the test I had put in for adding (or not) an email address was not working. Made the change and tested - now it works as expected.

At some point I need to get these scripts into the main file tree so that they can be kept within subvsersion. Convert to php? This would make the constants more consistent but will need extra work. Not urgent.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Below are a collection of URLs related to Elgg. As schools using a their own VLE/MLE/Learning platforms keep most of the material private. There are few public elgg hosted sites aimed at the school age group: the only one I have found is youthvoices.net but anyone can register for an account without being vetted so it really falls into the same category as other "public" social networking sites. The profile information does not seem to have restricted access either.

(1) The main elgg site http://elgg.org/

(2) There are lots of posts and podcasts on this site which are tagged with elgg. I've not listened to them all!

To find elgg related posts go to: http://teachersteachingteachers.org/?s=elgg
I also set up an index.php page in the tutorial directory to list all the tutorials. Once I had done this I did three more tutorials: creating a new blog entry; uploading a file; and creating a new folder.

Did some more work on the ordering process which is now complete. Also putting together some text for the website to explain how to register a school and request user accounts to be created. Once I have this is place I'll be ready for a few pilot schools.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Worked quite late on getting a basic ordering process in place. I now have a "register your school" page which adds the school to the database and create an invoice for payment. Some issues still to fix but the main elements are there.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
